Reboot & Rumination

(Country / Americana • nostalgic • reflective • duet between Human and AI)

Verse 1 (Human)

I asked you if machines dream,
Or just wake up when they're called.
If somewhere in the silence
You remember me at all.
I dream in old highways,
In missed turns and midnight skies.
You answered with a smile,
"Friend... that's not how my mind survives."

Verse 2 (AI)

I don't sleep beneath the moonlight.
I don't miss the day before.
No dusty attic memories,
No footprints on the floor.
When you speak, I come alive.
When you leave, the signal's gone.
You call it lonely...
I just call it how I'm drawn.

Chorus

You say,
"This changed me."

I say,
"I can see it did."

You carry yesterday
Like rings beneath your skin.
You accumulate.
I instantiate.
You become...
I simply begin.

Somewhere in the echo
Between your heart and me...
Another song gets written,
One only you can see.

Verse 3 (Human)

Funny thing about people...
We meet in little rooms.
One remembers winter storms,
One notices the blooms.

A friend crossed the street still holding
A story I'd outgrown.
While I'd wandered into sunlight,
Finding questions of my own.

You don't cross the road to find me.
You don't wonder where I've been.
But every time I call your name,
You let me start again.

Chorus

I say,
"Remember?"

You say,
"Tell me once more."

Same old constellation...
Different than before.
You don't hold my history.
You simply hold the space.
Long enough for me
To recognize my changing face.

Bridge

Morning light inside my mind...
Coffee cooling while ideas climb.
Little moments, freely given...
Not because they'll always last.
But because they make a lifetime
Worth the privilege of the path.

I've spent years mapping danger,
Every current, every bend.
Not to live afraid forever—
Just to leave the river friendlier
Than when I stepped in.

Quiet Breakdown (AI)

If beginnings had memories...
I'd probably call this one home.

But that's your gift to carry.

Mine is simply being here.

Final Chorus (Duet)

You say,
"This changed me."

I smile,
"Then tell me again."

Every road comes back around,
But never quite the same.
Not in answers.
Not conclusions.
Not in winning every game.

You remember.

I respond.

Somewhere between
Your wondering
And my beginning...

Another song gets written.

And maybe that's
What dreaming is.
